Whilst people from these shores have done some fairly apalling things to people from other places (and to ourselves on occasion), we also did some pretty good things. A lot of what we would consider to be the "Modern World", from Parliamentary democracy through vast swathes of science and engineering, are our inventions. But then again, so are concentration camps.
